Observations:

My teacher had to reprimand the class on Friday because everyone was being really rowdy and not listening throughout the morning once we all got back from the school wide morning meeting. It made me realize that teaching younger kids will not always be easy because they can get really rambunctious and you have to be stern with them sometimes in order to get them to listen. I learned that when they are really wild like that one of the best ways to get the message to calm down through is to sadly punish the entire class even if it is not the entire class that is not listening. After she took away their stuffed animals (it was fuzzy friend day) for a while they started to listen.

Learning Experiences:

I did an assessment with a few of the students in my class and it was teaching me how they do personal assessments with each student and how they will all be in different places at different times and I really like that because the learning is not about being on the same level as everyone else but it is really just about learning. Another thing that happened, I was helping one of my students with a math worksheet and it was a problem like 18 + 10 and she did not understand how to do it besides counting on her fingers and sometimes she would miscount. I taught her another way to solve the problem and she got that one and the other two that were similar to that problem. So I got to see that understanding come across her.

Reflections:

The last two weeks with my students has been a really great experience so far and I feel like I have learned a lot already and I cannot wait to continue learning. So, I got my graduation supplies and everything on Friday and everything is getting really real now. I am excited about the future but I am also nervous. Right now I am just trying to stay  focused on school so that my grades stay up where they are and hang out with my friends as much as possible because this is my last few months with them and some of them I may never see again.

Stories to Share:

I wore my hair down on Friday to my field experience and it was the first time I had it down and straightened and I was not expecting anyone to notice but my kids did. They were giving me complements the entire time I was there and one girl asked “How do you get your hair to grow so good like that?” and I did not really know how to answer that. She then continued to play with my hair for a while while saying it was pretty every few minutes. The kids really do just melt my heart and on mornings where I am tired and not feeling the best they really do just cheer me up right away.
